48 Hours in Livingstone from Lusaka: Mosi-oa-Tunya on a Short Trip
Victoria Falls — Mosi-oa-Tunya — is Zambia's headline sight, and Livingstone is the town beside it. From Lusaka it's a short flight or a long drive; either way, two days covers the essentials.
Fly or drive?
Fly (quickest)
Proflight Zambia and Zambia Airways run several flights a day from Lusaka (LUN) to Livingstone (LVI), taking about 1 hour 25 minutes. Fares start around US$140, so book early for weekends and peak season. On a 48-hour trip, flying gives you the most time at the Falls. Book via Trip.com
Drive (about 7 hours)
Take the T2 south towards Kafue, then the T1 through Mazabuka, Monze, Choma and Kalomo to Livingstone, a distance of roughly 475 km. The road is a single carriageway with heavy trucks and no street lighting, so leave early and arrive before dark.
Tip: Carry kwacha for tolls and fill up whenever you can.
Bus (budget option)
Operators such as Mazhandu Family and Shalom leave from Lusaka Intercity Bus Terminus. The trip takes about 7 hours, often longer, and costs roughly US$20–35, paid in kwacha. Buy your ticket at the terminus a day ahead and take an early departure.
